Epic Games is suing a beta tester who leaked information about Fortnite Chapter 2

David vs Goliath

Epic Games is suing a beta tester allegedly responsible for leaking information about Fortnite Chapter 2. Just a few weeks ago, Fornite all but disappeared off the face of the earth during a massive advertising campaign to draw people to the next Fortnite game. While this was supposed to be a time of heightened tension and concern for Fortnite fans, it was quickly cut due to leaks that confirmed the arrival of a new Fortnite game. This is the person who would be allegedly responsible for this incident and that Epic Games is going to court.

Ronald Sykes, the beta tester in question, is accused by Epic Games of violating an NDA (non-disclosure agreement). Sykes had previously worked for Fortnite and previously tested Fortnite Season 11.

Epic Games holds Sykes responsible for leaking information telling fans that swimming was going to be a novelty. As well as allowing fans to take a peek at the new map that was going to be added. Sykes supposedly spread this information using a slew of Twitter accounts he created exclusively for this purpose.

Since the whole process has just begun, it's not clear what charges or fines Sykes will face. However, he is highly unlikely to risk jail time, but a hefty fine is almost a guarantee.

Epic Games is one of the largest video game studios in the world. So it's hard to imagine that Sykes will be able to pull off a win in court. Especially if they have some sort of damning evidence that we have no way of knowing at the moment. It should be interesting to see where this leads.

Fortnite Chapter 2 is available for PS4, PC, Xbox One and Switch.
