One of the most positive trends in gaming on this generation of consoles is the advent of cross-platform play. This is where players who play a game can not only play that game with players on other platforms, but also join a team to enjoy playing with friends. This means that if your main system is an Xbox One, you can still play games with friends on PS4 or PC, for example. It also means that those games with smaller communities aren't fragmented by the platforms they're on.
The trend was pushed this generation by the alternative football game Rocket League, and has since been implemented in a number of games. The benefits are clear to see, and the push for more cross-platform is a big plus for entering the next generation space.
Not all games support crossplay, but the list grows as we move further into the future, with major publishers such as EA putting a heavy emphasis on crossplay in their future titles.
