Here's why RIP Fortnite is trending on Twitter

We don't know what you expected, Fortnite players

So #RIPFortnite is trending on Twitter. What does it mean? Is Epic Games Shutting Down? Did a disastrous patch break the game? Is Fortnite still playable? The good news is that Epic Games isn't shutting down, the game isn't broken, and Fortnite is in pristine condition (now featuring Street Fighter characters). The bad news – uh, sort of – is that Epic Games is cracking down on match betting, where most of the outrage is coming from. The rest is just general dissatisfaction with a game that has been around for years and is now officially “old” and “dead” in the eyes of young people. This side of the hashtag probably needs no explanation. The wagering match is a bit more complicated.

Here's why RIP Fortnite is trending on Twitter

If you've never heard of betting matches before, here's the deal: it's a kind of unofficial game mode where people bet on the winner of a match. It promotes the game to young Fortnite players and is completely against Fortnite's Terms of Service, which all players must agree to before starting the game, so it's no wonder Epic Games are trying to repress it. Despite these very reasonable arguments, a lot of people are very upset because they think match betting has kept the game afloat. We're not convinced, and neither is Epic Games.

Popular streamers like Clix have violated the terms of service by playing and promoting betting matches, and Epic Games refuses to let this slide any longer. In other words, they have contacted these streamers and are directly threatening them with bans if they continue. Honestly, we don't know what those other streamers expected.

I will no longer play or have anything to do with betting, I have just been personally sent by Epic and told to stop or will result in a ban. Recommend others stop as well, tweeting this to let people know.
