Not one but three Tomb Raider games are free
The Tomb Raider Reboot Trilogy is the latest freebie on the Epic Games Store. The pack will be available for download at no additional cost until January 6. The titles featured in this trilogy are the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, the 2016 sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider, and the 2019 follow-up Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
While this is great news for fans, it wasn't entirely a surprise. A few days ago, dataminers revealed that some Tomb Raider titles were going to be offered for free on December 30. Epic Games confirmed all the rumors when they featured the trilogy as today's free game on their digital store.
To access the bundle, players will need to download the Epic Games Store launcher to their PC. After creating their account, they can start adding free games to their library.
Although fans have seen Lara Croft on the big screen before, the franchise is actually hitting the gaming world for the first time. The first game in the trilogy focuses more on survival with open world exploration. It has an action story that allows players to unlock certain upgrades for their skills and gear.
The second game features a solid foundation for RPG upgrades, open-world exploration, and third-person combat. Basically, this seems like a bigger and better version of the first reboot formula. The 2016 sequel also has an interesting narrative as it shows Lara transforming into a hero trying so hard to save the day amidst her own personal demons.
The final title in the trilogy was a product of Eidos Montreal, not Crystal Dynamics like the first two. Despite the fact that another studio did it, it followed the same formula established in its predecessors. It didn't necessarily lead the franchise in a bad direction. However, many fans complained that it felt a bit clunky and old compared to the first two installments.
