Fortnite file size on PC is drastically reduced

Fortnite on PC reduced from 100 GB to less than 30 GB

Fans of Epic Games' free-to-play Fortnite battle royale on PC will be pleased to know that the game has been compressed to a much tinier size than before. Fortnite was over 100GB before a recent update that reduced the Battle Royale game to 27GB. This frees up a lot of space for other games on the Epic Games Store, especially the freebies that keep pouring in. Fortnite is also available for free on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android right now.

As Epic Games' patch note pointed out, PC Fortnite players will need to download a larger-than-normal patch before the overall file size reduction takes effect. This will make the update abnormally large, but the result will reduce the game's file size much more. Compressing to Fortnite's file size on PC will leave no more than a third of its previous size. Now that Fortnite has been shrunk so drastically, we can't wait to see how much Activision Blizzard can compress Call of Duty Warzone, which is now over 100GB of pure battle royale.

Alongside a spooky jack-o-lantern and a stunning โ€œboo!โ€ in a recent Fortnite Status tweet, Epic Games said, โ€œPlease note that the patch size will be larger than normal on PC (around 27GB). This is all about optimizations on PC, resulting in a significantly reduced Fortnite file size (over 60GB less), smaller downloads for future patches, and improved loading performance. Apex Legends still rings in at a smaller 25,82GB on PC, but Fortnite fans will be delighted to know just how compressed their battle royale has been in the recent update.
