Aerodactyl is an available raid Pokemon that you can defeat and capture in Pokemon Go. It's traditionally a three-star raid, which means most higher level trainers, with the right Pokemon, can destroy it by themselves. While it helps to have an extra friend or two to take him down, you should be able to defeat him. You can randomly find an Aerodactyl raid in one of the gyms available in the game, and if a three-star raid egg is about to hatch if you have a good chance of seeing it appear. He could potentially be a Shiny Aerodactyl.
Aerodactyl Weaknesses
Aerodactyl is a Flying and Rock-type Pokémon, making it weak to Electric, Ice, Rock, Steel, and Water-type attacks. It resists Bug, Fire, Flying, Ground, Normal, and Poison type attacks, which you need to stay away from.
Pokémon to counter Aerodactyl
The best Pokemon you want to use against Aerodactyl in the raid are Metagross, Swampert, and Rhyperior.
Metagross is a great Steel and Psychic-type to use in the raid. He has several Steel-type attacks that he can use against him and can reach a maximum CP of 3, an attack of 791, a defense of 257 and a stamina of 228. You want you to know the punch and the flash cannon or meteor mash to use against Aerodactyl. The other charge moves are useful, but not in this raid.
The second choice is the PvP powerhouse Swampert, the Ground and Water-type Pokémon. It's a favorite for most Fight League trainers to use, so many players should go out of their way to try and add a Swampert to their team. It has the maximum CP of 2, an attack of 974, a defense of 208, and a stamina of 175. You want to use one that knows water gun and surf, muddy water, or hydro cannon. Any of these three charge moves should be a suitable match against Aerodactyl.
The last optimal choice is Rhyperior, the Rock and Ground type Pokémon. Although he has a variety of weaknesses, he should be a superb choice to use in the raid. It has a max CP of 3, an attack of 733, a defense of 241, and a stamina of 190. It's a carefully calculated choice to use in the battle league, but perfect for raid battles. You want to use one that knows slam and rock wrecker or stone edge.
While all three of these picks are great options against Aerodactyl, they're not the only ones. You can also use Empoleon, Electivire, Raikou, Feraligatr, Mamoswine, Excadrill, Kingler, Luxray, Galarian Darmanitan and Tyranitar. When trying to take on Aerodactyl, you need to make sure you're using a variety of Pokemon that cover its weaknesses to make every attack against it count. Once you defeat him, you can expect to try and capture him with a variety of Prime Bullets that you'll receive at the end of the raid based on your performance. The Aerodactyl you catch at the end will have a CP of 1-515, or 1-590 if the weather improves.
