How to Craft a Telescope in Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Update

One of the neat things about the Caves & Cliffs update is that we're actually getting a whole new item that's never had an in-game iteration before: the telescope.

The Minecraft Telescope will allow the game to look through and see through its circular lens at a far distance in that direction.

Collect resources for a telescope

To craft a telescope, you'll need both the new ore and the new type of shards added to the game: copper and amethyst shards.

Copper is a semi-precious metal that you can probably find at the same rate as something like lapis lazuli. It is an ore that must be smelted like iron or gold. Amethyst Shards, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to find as they can only be harvested from Amethyst Geodes: a new underground rare generation.

Locating an amethyst geode can be made easier by the fact that if one is nearby, you will hear the sound of bells ringing. Follow the sound to find the geode.

To get an amethyst shard, you need to smash the amethyst crystals growing inside the geode. The geode blocks themselves are unobtainable, but the crystals can regrow over time, so if you find a geode, it's good to plot a route so you can easily return to smash more shards.

Once you have obtained both Amethyst Shards and Copper, you will have everything you need to craft a Telescope. The exact recipe has yet to be released, but clearly getting those Amethyst Shards will be the biggest part of the battle.
