Age of Empires IV is one of the best RTS games to come out on PC lately. The latest installment in the series has several new features improving the overall quality of life for players. But at the same time retaining many fan-favorite features from older editions. One such core feature that retains its place in the latest edition of the game is the ability to pause the game simulation. To completely stop the game simulation, press the “Pause” hotkey during your game.

As mentioned earlier, to pause the simulation, you will need to press the “Pause” button. Pausing the simulation will prevent the game from running in the background. Besides the Pause button, you can also use the Esc or F10 buttons to stop the game.

You cannot stop or pause multiplayer games as it is a real-time event involving various parties.

Remember that unlike other famous RTS games, you cannot change the game simulation rate in Age of Empires IV. For now, you can only pause the game simulation. The ability to control the simulation speed may come in future updates.
