How to put out a fire in Starmancer

Many gamers learning the ropes of the Starmancer game have found that the tutorial lacks detailed descriptions on how to play. One of the difficulties that most players face in the game is how to put out fires. Unfortunately, there's currently only one way to put out a fire, and it's not as fast as it should be. In the guide below, we explain how to extinguish the flames.

How to put out a fire in Starmancer

The description for extinguishing fires is confusing at best, stating only to "ventilate the room". What this means is eliminating all sources of oxygen in the room. This means you need to do the following.

  • Lock all doors leading to the room. This is to make sure your citizens don't die of suffocation.
  • Close all wall vents in other rooms that contain oxygen (e.g. the blue square in the image above).
  • Turn on any wall vents leading into the space (e.g. the yellow square in the image above).
  • Be sure to see warnings for atmosphere leaks and low oxygen levels (eg the red square in the top right of the image above). It is not necessary to have an atmosphere leak warning, but it does speed up the ventilation of the room.
  • Once you have performed all the steps listed above, the oxygen level in the room will deteriorate rapidly and the fire will go out on its own. If you haven't already installed a wall vent to the outside, you may be able to have a character install one in the room with the fire before it spreads or damages the equipment.

Note: Even if it is for the sole purpose of putting out fires, it is best to have an outside wall vent in every room of your vessel.
