Requesting a trade is a bit more difficult in NBA 2K22 than in previous years. In NBA 2K22, the trade request is built into the storyline and requires a few cutscenes and games. To request a trade, players must become a starter on their team, play a few matches, and then select the option to continue a trade during a cutscene.
Once the trade is requested, the option to speak to the agent will eventually become available after a few games. During this cutscene, players can select which team they want to go to. This will include the player's potential salary and team interest. Players must determine which teams need their position or skills, which will reflect in the interest of the team.

Once players have selected the teams they would like to go to, a few more matches need to be played until there is a notification that the trade is complete. There is no set number of games that must be played to complete the trade and may differ from player to player.
Since the trade request is tightly tied to the story, it can be difficult to trigger every cutscene required to complete the trade. The starting point for the trade request is a cutscene in which Kendrick Perkins goes on a rant about the player, which will trigger a question from a friend asking if the player wants to request a trade. If the player chooses to stay, the trade cannot be completed until the story progresses.

After the first season, players can request a trade by going to the My Player tab and pressing "Request Trade", which will then prompt the player to select the teams they are interested in. The trade can then be completed if the team wishes to add the player.
