The trident is a powerful weapon in Minecraft and is hard to find. The only natural way to get them is to kill the Drowned. In the Bedrock Edition, there is a 15% chance of a drowned spawn with a trident and an 8,5% chance of dropping one. In the Java edition, only 6,25% of drowned appear with a trident.
As a result, every trident you find in Drown tends to be damaged already, meaning it won't last long. So you will want to repair your trident. There are several ways to do this.

You can combine two damaged tridents on a crafting table which will create an intact trident but destroy any enchantments on the tridents. You can combine two damaged tridents on a grindstone which will remove any enchantment except Curse of Vanishing and Curse of Binding. You can also combine two damaged tridents on an anvil which will preserve enchantments. Finally, you can apply the Repair enchantment to a trident.
Tridents have the same durability as an iron sword. It deals nine damage when used as a melee weapon and eight damage when thrown at full charge. An iron sword only deals six damage, which makes the trident a much better and more versatile option.
