How to Get Honey in Minecraft

If you can't find candy cane in Minecraft, a good alternative is bottled honey, but getting honey will require a few steps; here are all and more explanations.

How to make honey in Minecraft

To get honey in Minecraft you will need bees and a beehive; however, to obtain a Hive, you will need Honeycombs, which must first be obtained from Honeycombs that spawn naturally in the following biomes.



  • Plains
  • Plaines SunFlower
  • flower forest

Honeycombs also have a low chance to spawn in the following biomes.

  • forest
  • birch forest
  • female dog Forest Hills
  • Big birch forest
  • Tall Birch Hills
  • wooded hills

Once you have located a honeycomb, you will then have to wait for the bees to fill the hive with honey; you will know when the hive is full of honey when it looks like the picture below.

How to Get Honey in Minecraft

When the nest is full of honey, you can harvest it with shears which you can craft with two iron ingots, or you can craft and use glass bottles to get the honey. If you use bottles, you can then use the bottled honey you get to craft sugar by placing it anywhere in a crafting table.

However, you should note that doing either will anger the bees and cause them to attack you. You can circumvent this by having a campfire lit under the hive, which will prevent bees from attacking you.

When you have a beehive made, you can then use it as a continuous source of honey as long as you have bees to make honey from; you can get bees for your hives by attracting them with flowers.
