Minecraft Dungeons Secret Levels Guide - All Hidden Levels!

Minecraft Dungeons Secret Levels Guide - All Hidden Levels!

In the game of Minecraft Dungeons, there are quite a few things to find and unlock throughout the story. One of those things is a number of hidden areas that will unlock additional content to explore. We are going to see how to unlock all secret levels in Minecraft Dungeons in this guide!

You'll definitely want to unlock all of these hidden levels, as they'll improve your ability to acquire additional weapons, armor, bows, and artifacts! You may not even have encountered them in your first game. This is because the locations required to unlock levels do not always appear on the map. So you could have been playing and unaware that they even exist!

How hidden levels work

There are four secret levels that can be unlocked at any difficulty in the game. They are Creepy Crypt, Soggy Cave, Arch Haven, and Underhalls. There's also a fifth tier you can unlock, but that requires a different method, which we'll cover later in the post.

Each of the four locations are unlocked by finding a scroll item that is in a hidden area somewhere on the home map. What I mean by that is that all of the previously mentioned hidden levels are associated with a specific map location. Creepy Crypt can only be unlocked in Creeper Woods, Soggy Cave in Soggy Swamp, Arch Haven in Pumpkin Pastures, and Underhalls in Highblock Halls.

Now that would seem easy enough, however, the scrolling and hidden location does NOT appear every time you load one of these maps! It's completely random and you'll have to be lucky to find it. Fear not though, we have some tips on how you'll know the scroll has likely spawned!

Secret Level Tips

Play on the lowest difficulty, as there is no real incentive to play on anything harder. If you're in a state where you destroy everything in sight, then play whatever you want! You might as well have a chance of getting some good loot. Also be sure to use any speed items you may have, this will allow you to pass the level faster. Some areas are quite deep in the map, so it takes a while to get to them.

The biggest key to knowing if any of the hidden areas are on the map is to view the full map when you spawn in an area. You can open the full map by holding down the D-Pad on your controller or pressing M on the keyboard. Look at the bottom left for the text "Secrets". You might see 0/0, 0/1, 0/2, and maybe even more. This number means how many secrets are currently on the map! Here is an example:

Although this is a good indicator, it can also be a bit misleading. First of all, if you haven't completed the first difficulty in the game, it's a bit easier for you. The reason is that sometimes you open the map and see 0/0. This means there is no secret and you can immediately go back and relaunch it. If you have completed the story once, you will almost always see at least one secret due to the addition of runes (these will appear later). So keep that in mind when looking to unlock levels.

The more secrets on the map, the more likely you will find the area leading to the secret level. If you haven't beaten the game you can bet to see one on the map, if you have then your best bet is to seek out at least two secrets before you go exploring!

Unlock secret levels

As mentioned, there are currently four different secret levels you can unlock, and one that requires a bit more work. Here is a list of secret unlockable levels and some information on how to locate them:

spooky crypt

Head to Creeper Woods to open the creepy crypt. Most of the time, you can find the area you're looking for on the left side of the map, but you can't completely trust what's happening. From what I've gathered, it looks like the location will either be after or just before the area where you free the villagers. Make sure to keep your map open and look for an opening that winds away from the main part of the map.

It's a temple area with a switch to its right. Hit the switch and explore the dungeon inside. You'll eventually land on a pedestal with a scroll on it! Interact with him and you will have unlocked the spooky crypt.

soggy cave

For this one, you'll need to head to the Soggy Swamps map. The location is similar to the Creepy Crypt in that you'll be looking for a temple-like area. It spawns BEFORE the Cauldron fight, so if you've gotten to this point on the map, you've gone too far. You also do NOT need to complete the level after getting the scroll. The area we are looking for will appear after the cave area, which may take some time to pass. This is where having speed enchantments will come in handy.

When you load Soggy Swamps you are either looking for 0/1 Secrets BEFORE you beat the game once, or 0/2 Secrets if you beat the game and unlocked the new difficulty. This appears on the full map, check above in secret level tips for more info.

Arch Haven

For this one, you'll need to head to the Pumpkin Pastures map. It is believed to be one of the most difficult as it is nearly impossible to figure it out from the secrets of the map. You can have a wide variety of secrets and you cannot spawn the area. You can go from 2 to 6 secrets at any map opening, so all you have to do is rely on speed and run around the map to check it.

What you're looking for is a boat with a glowing door on it. Here's what it will look like in-game (credit to Chris B for the screenshot):

The boat usually seems to appear in the first half of the map, before lowering the drawbridge. This is not always the case however, and we found it further. It depends on whether you want to spend more time exploring the map or not.

Once inside, you will have to fight a group of mobs. It's not too difficult, and once you finish them all, you'll have access to the scroll to unlock Arch Haven!

Underhalls

To unlock the Underhalls, you will need to go to the Highblock Halls. What we know about this one is that it always spawns between two shields. The left shield you see will look a bit like it's protruding outward. You can interact with it to push it in, which will open up the area you need for scrolling.

This one is the easiest as it seems to spawn pretty much every time you load the level. It's also very early in the map, so just look for the next location and hit the shield:

The main difficulty with this one is that it's quite easy to get swarmed by mobs in the area, so try to kill them before heading out rather than rushing through them!

Secret rune level: ??? (Cow level)

As I mentioned before, there is another secret level you can access! It's the ??? Level that requires you to locate 9 different runes, one rune per main level of the game. You can only start acquiring them once you have completed the game on the starting difficulty!

To get these runes, you need to find specific switch locations that unlock a rune area where you can collect the rune itself. It can be a little hard to describe, so here's a video to walk you through the process:

Once you collect all these runes, you will find yourself a new place where you can fight called the ??? Level. This is inspired by Diablo 2 which had a secret level that let you fight a bunch of cows.

lower temple

If you have the Official Minecraft Dungeons Guide, you may have heard of the Lower Temple. It's supposed to be another unlockable level you can find, but so far no one has been able to unlock it. It is possible that it has not entered the game yet and will be added in a future update. We'll keep an eye out for any additional information on this!
